Jewellery & Silversmithing BA Final Project

Bespoke Sentimental Jewellery

I've been very busy over the last few weeks finishing all my uni work and my latest jewellery designs. I have been on very long journey with my designs, and written a whole dissertation! My work this year has been conceptual, with many influences. These influences include:

Personal life experiences - my partner spends months at a time at sea - I want to hold onto happy memories

Victorian mourning and sentimental jewellery

Victorian miniatures

Photography

Jane Edden

Melanie Bilenker

Loretta Fontaine

Bettina Speckner

I have taken vintage pocket watches that can not be repaired, removed the movement and in it's place I have inserted discs that depict images from a couples wedding day. These designs are intended to be keepsakes, souvenirs, sentimental jewellery from a joyous day. If you would like to commission one please contact me at info@jobatchelor.co.uk.

Sentimental Sea Glass

As part of my final project at college I have been experimenting with techniques and designs to incorporate photographs into jewellery, and here is one design idea. Photograph transferred onto Sea Glass and set in a simple bezel to be worn as a pendant. The beauty of this design is that it is completely unique to each photograph and sea glass used.

Commitment Ring

I love texture and pattern, and here is the ring that I made for boyfriend, Gareth. I think he likes it too. This solid silver band initially had a texture that reminded me of still water. You know all the little ripples that appear to travel in every direction. However, I needed to re size it and i doing so, I lost the initial texture. When tidying the band up after this process I had a new texture that I love more it's unusual texture and pattern. To highlight the texture and pattern I added a patina. He says the pattern looks like my fingerprints. I guess that's a good thing as it's a handmade present from me to him.
